InspireNOW: Sarah Elder-Chamanara

Introduced to world politics as a teenager on an exchange year abroad in Germany, Sarah brought home suitcases full of European clothes and the realization that local issues can have global consequences. In 2007 she walked into the British Columbia Legislature where she began her political career for the former B.C. Liberal Government. She retired from politics in 2012 and moved to Fort McMurray to be closer to her partner and take on leading a non-profit dedicated to increasing community leadership.

In 2018 Sarah pitched the non-profit board she was sitting on the design for A Woman’s Place as a fundraising idea. Her idea was rejected and several months later Madame Premier was born with the same design part of the first Election and became a wardrobe staple for women in Canada and around the world for women who support and believe that a woman’s place is in politics. A portion of every sale is donated to local organizations that work to advance gender equality for women and girls. Sarah has a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies from Royal Roads University. She and her husband, Ali, have two sons and a dog and now call Calgary home.

Standing for "Inspire Northern Ontario Women", InspireNOW is a new speaker series that aims to showcase and learn from the bountiful inspirational and talented women that we have in our communities. Join us as we talk to Sarah about her start in politics and how she created this amazing company.

All are welcome to join. This is a free event. It will be hosted online, on the free platform Zoom. You will receive the link to join when you sign up. We can't wait to have a great and frank conversation about women in leadership with our guest and you.
