Hi there! I’m Amanda, and I wear many hats —community builder, lifelong educator, and dedicated do-gooder, all on a mission to create positive change in Northern Ontario and beyond.
What I do, in a nutshell: I create change and shape future leaders through education, community building, and civic engagement.
I started as a teacher, spending 12 years in K-12 classrooms before transitioning to the nonprofit sector, where I now empower educators to drive meaningful change. I’m also the founder of PoliticsNOW, an organization dedicated to helping women get elected to municipal councils in Northern Ontario. My work and passion sit at the intersection of education, public policy, and gender equality.
I bring my classroom experience into everything I do—from fostering connections to designing accessible learning tools. I'm particularly focused on making Canadian politics and civics engaging and easy to understand. In 2022, I wrote the Exploring Your Run Workbook, a definitive guide to help women prepare for office, followed by the Voter Outreach Workbook on canvassing.
Over 90K people have engaged with my civic literacy projects on Instagram. My short-form educational series, Amanda Teaches Civics, has reached over 380K views and nearly 25K engagements. I believe that an informed and empowered public is the foundation of a strong democracy, which is why I’m committed to making political literacy more accessible—both through my free content on Instagram and deeper dives on my Amanda Teaches Civics Substack.
Through PoliticsNOW, I’ve trained over 500 individuals in governance, policy, and civics education. I’m especially proud to have supported 80+ women-led political campaigns during the 2018 and 2022 Ontario Municipal Elections, resulting in 60+ women elected to office. My programs have ignited political and civic engagement across Canada, leaving a lasting impact on communities.
You may have spotted me on CBC, Flare Magazine, CTV, Global News, or your local news channels, sharing insights on women in politics, education and civic engagement. My op-eds have been featured in the Ottawa Citizen, the Toronto Sun, and the Hamilton Spectator, among others.
I’m passionate about sharing knowledge and inspiring action. I’ve spoken at national and regional events, including:
Teachers Institute on Canadian Parliamentary Democracy with the Library of Parliament
The United Way Volunteer Drive
The QFLIP Conference
ETFO’s Women In Politics events.
I’ve delivered keynote speeches, led panels, and facilitated workshops for diverse organizations across Canada.
I have been recognized for my work several times, including:
🏆 CBC WeAreTheChange Winner
🏆 Distinguished Alumni Award
🏆 Rachel Proulx Memorial Award
🏆 40 Under 40 Honoree
A CBC documentary was even made about my work with PoliticsNOW!
Throughout my journey, my focus has remained on my mission, and these experiences have expanded my knowledge and strengthened my dedication to serving the communities I serve.
My ultimate purpose is simple:
I'm on a mission to be the good in the world by helping shape the next generation of leaders.
If you're ready to make an impact, let’s connect and explore how we can work together.
